chapter 3 ♪ ♫Every single time I see you I start to feel this way
Makes me wonder if I'm ever gonna feel this way again
There's a picture that's hanging in the back of my head
I see it over and over A lot of things ran through Mely's mind as she was walking away from her best friends, and many scenarios came through her head, making her eyes wet. She didn't want to lose them, but it was getting harder to handle. For once in her life, she wanted to be the favorite, the number one, for someone. She cursed in a low tone, more ashamed of the feelings inside of her than of the words coming of her own lips.
"Amely! Wait!"
With a sigh, the blond girl pretended not to hear and dived her hands in her pockets while her best friend was running after her.
"Mely, stop!" Livia yelled as her long brown hair moved around her.
She grabbed her friend's arm as she got to her level and kept on walking with her, trying to catch her breath. Frowning at Amely's facial expression, Livia bit her bottom lip in wonder.
"Are you okay?"
There was no way Amely was going to admit her jealousy, and she forced her lips to curl, sending a smile to her best friend. It was not worth breaking a friendship over, and she didn't want to make Livia feel guilty or uncomfortable the next time she'd get this kind of attention. After all, it was not her fault, and there was no reason for Mel to make her friend pay for her insecurity. She turned to her friend and noticed her worries, but also the way her eyes shined for a reason Mely ignored.
"Yea, I'm fine." she lied. "It's just my curfew time."
"Can I sleep at your place?"
Amely hesitated. She mostly felt like spending time alone in her room to think, but Livia was her best friend, and she knew that in the end, she'd be happy to have her home. Taking a quick glance behind her, she noticed the guys staring at them as they left. Zac waved shyly at her but she didn't answer and allowed herself to smile.
"Sure." she finally agreed.
"Amazing!" Livia expressed as they stood right in front of her house. "I'll go get my stuff and meet you at your place!"
With one last grin, she ran to her front door and disappeared behind it, leaving Amely alone. She sighed, putting the hood of her blue jacket over her head, hiding her waterfall of honey hair. Slowly, she walked inside her house and walked up the stairs, passing next to her older brother who grabbed her arm, making Amely sigh. She didn't particularly liked to be touched, and it was the second time in only some minutes, making her annoyance grow.
"Lyly, are you okay?"
Billie was the only one who had the right to nickname her that way, and she liked hearing it from his mouth : he sounded like their father more than he wanted to admit. She looked down, trying not to stare into his eyes, knowing he'd immediately find out something was wrong. She remembered her best friend sitting down on the grass, and the way Zac was over her... but more importantly, the frown Taylor was sending his brother and his best friend. He was jealous of Zac, and she was jealous of Livia, how could something like that ever turn out well? She was a simple corner of a love square. Even worse than that, because no one liked her. Now that she was thinking about it, it seemed more like a love triangle between Taylor, Zac and Livia, while Amely was only standing outside, powerless to everything that was happening, and without getting any kind of attention.
"Yea, I'm fine." she bluffed. "Can you tell mom that Livia is staying home tonight?"
Billie noticed in the puppy eyes his sister was sending him that she was not in the mood for discussion, and he knew her well enough to know that it'd be better if he didn't insist. If she wanted to talk, Amely would come to him, and that was okay this way. He nodded to her and walked down the stairs while his sister went to her room and closed the door behind her before to throw herself on the cover of her bed. She crossed her feet and grabbed the basket ball next to her, making it spin quickly on her forefinger. She knew she was not as girly as Livia was, and she'd rather wear comfortable clothes than cute clothes, but that was not a reason for not considering and treating her like a girl. Out of frustration, she threw the ball roughly on her door as it was opening and Livia only had time to move her head, feeling the orange ball brush her hair.
"Wow, girl." she expressed, surprised. "That's anger right there."
"Sorry Liv." Amely sighed. "I'm just in a bad mood."
The blond girl noticed that her best friend had changed from her dress to her pajamas and her hair was now down on her shoulders, falling gracefully until her lower back. Amely sat up, giving Livia some space to sit down next to her.
"What's wrong?"
Livia dived her eyes in her friend's, expressing worries.
"We're best friends." she continued. "You know you can tell me everything."
Mely's light blue eyes filled themselves with tears, and her lips started to shake. She wanted to let it all out, she wanted to tell her best friend everything, no matter how awkward it would become between them afterward. She had to open up and express her feelings because she couldn't take it anymore. The weight of these secrets were crushing her, and it was too much to handle.
"I love Taylor." she enlightened in one breath. "I know you like him, and I know he likes you. But the attention he's giving you is hurting me more every day."
In shock, Livia stared at her best friend, her mouth slightly open and her eyes rounder.
"I'm jealous of you." Amely continued. "I don't want to, but it's stronger than me. You always catch the three of them's attention, and I can't keep them concentrated on me for more than a minute."
As she spoke her deepest thoughts, tears invaded her cheeks, quickly falling down her chin. Livia managed to get closer, putting her arms carefully around her best friend. Feeling lighter, Amely allowed herself to break out of her shell completely, laying her head on Livia's shoulder as she sobbed in her shirt.
"Mely, you're beautiful, and I know the boys love you." Livia whispered. "You shouldn't denigrate yourself this way."
Livia's heart was aching for her best friend. The news that Amely and her longed for the same boy was more than a disappointment : it was a heart break. There was no way she could be with him anymore, knowing how much it would hurt her best friend. Why should it surprise her anyway? They were so alike, something like that was meant to happen at some point. Mely cried in her arms for a while, until she wiped her tears off and looked at her friend, biting her bottom lip.
"No one will ever separate us, did you hear me?" Livia promised sweetly. "We're stronger than that. Our friendship is stronger than that."
I want to hold you and love you in my arms and then
I want to need you cause I need to be with you til the end
Then I hear myself reply you've got to hold it in
This time, tonight It was 11 in the morning when Taylor felt a pillow crush over his head, making him groan in annoyance. He turned around on his side before to feel an other hit and forced himself to open his eyes, seeing his younger brother with a large smile crossing his lips.
"Time to get up!" he yelled, punching his brother an other time.
Taylor grabbed the pillow this time and pulled on it.
"There's no time to get up, it's summer." he informed, hitting his brother back.
Zac laughed, grabbing an other pillow on his brother's bed and they started fighting, waking Taylor up completely. After a while, seeing he was losing, Taylor kept battling with Zac while walking to the bathroom and he quickly closed the door behind him.
As the hot water was falling on his body, he thought about the events of the night before. He would never understand girls, and it was seriously annoying him. When Zac and Livia had started flirting despite themselves, he had felt this jealousy invade his body, and he didn't like it. So maybe he liked Livia more than he wanted to admit, but what he couldn't understand is how Zac could be interested, too. It was weird to think that he was in competition with his own brother, and he didn't like the idea of hurting anyone, especially his own blood. Somehow, he had the feeling Livia was not indifferent to him, and this thought made him smile.
After dressing up, he went to join his brother and they both decided to spend their day with the girls. They arrived in front of a large white house. It was beautiful, but as usual, it seemed lifeless, and they had the confirmation that no one was home when they rang the doorbell without getting any answer. Taylor felt a pain at heart : Livia was alone most of the time, and although it clearly hurt her, she never complained about her parents being away. Her older sister had a new boyfriend, and spent her time with him, while the brunette had to take care of herself every day.
They went to Amely's place, and Taylor decided to climb to the girl's window using the drainpipe. When he was at the top, he stared at the two girls sleeping. Livia's long brown hair was hiding half of her face and her chest moved slowly as she breathed. Amely was curled like a kitty, her knees close to her chin. Her sheets were stuck in a ball form at the edge of her bed.
His eyes moving from a girl to the other, Taylor smiled at the sight of his two friends. He couldn't believe how much they meant to him, and he knew it would be hard on him when they'd have to leave for their summer tour. They only had some days left together, and he didn't want to spoil a second.
With a smile, Zac watched as his brother was knocking softly on the glass, waking both girls up at the same time.
"Girls! We're here!"
"Get down, Jordan Taylor Hanson!" Livia yelled, quickly getting out of bed and walking up closer to him. She opened the window as Mely was joining her.
"We'll be there in a second."
"Now get down!" the brunette repeated.
Looking down at his brother, Taylor smiled.
"They're coming."
